What are Canadians saying about their eye health?
No matter what corner of Canada you call home, Canadians overwhelmingly agree: eye health matters.
A recent national survey by the Canadian Ophthalmological Society offers a snapshot of what people across the country think about eye health and reveals where there’s more to learn – so we can all take better care of our eyes.
Eye Health at a Glance: Canadian Perspectives
Canadians care deeply about their vision:

97% believe that eye care is crucial to overall wellbeing

83% say they prioritize their vision health
Most Canadians rate their overall eye health as excellent or good, but many of us still have some blind spots when it comes to knowing how to take care of our eyes

Only about half of Canadians:

Understand what factors affect their eye health

Feel familiar with treatment options for serious eye conditions

Are aware of the different roles of eye care professionals
When it comes to eye health, Canadians are increasingly concerned about:

Screentime, especially for kids

Extreme weather like UV exposure, wildfire smoke, and cold winds
Canadians value innovative eye care and are confident in their ability to access it

92% say access to cutting-edge exams and treatments is important

82% believe vision care in Canada is innovative

75% feel they currently have access to innovative eye exams and treatments
It’s clear that Canadians love their eyes. And by learning more about eye health, you can make confident choices that help protect your vision for years to come.
Results are from an online survey of 1,501 Canadians aged 18+, conducted in March 2025 on behalf of the Canadian Ophthalmological Society.
